Just Like Daddy

Olen talks on his phone alot. The only time I'm on the phone is to talk to Olen or my mom. I always let Aiden talk to them when they call. He hears the phone ring and crawls really, really fast to me so he can talk on the phone. He just loves hearing grandma and daddy talk to him. So, grandma got him his own cell phone and matching keys. He just loves them. They are his favorite toys.

New Dishwasher

My mom bought us a new dishwasher a few weeks ago (that we are very, very grateful for!). Aiden was very curious about it. He and daddy checked it out. Aiden pulled out the instructions as if he was going to be the one to install it! He takes after mommy; she reads instructions before installing things. I just love this new dishwasher. It's a Bosch. They apparently make power tools as well. This washer is quiet and powerful. Something that our old one was not. It holds large items too. I love the fact that I can be in the same room with it and be able to hold a conversation.

Trails of ...Tissue?

One day not so long ago, I was doing laundry and cleaning the kitchen. I realized that I hadn't heard anything from the baby in a while. I went looking for him. I discovered a trail of toilet tissue leading from the bathroom into his room! It was easy to find him. I've heard of trails of crumbs, but not of toilet tissue!

Thud!

The other day I was changing Aiden on his bed. I turned around for a split second to throw away the diaper and I heard a small thud! I turned back around and discovered my son staring at me from the far side of the bed. He had managed to fall straight down feet first between the wall and the bed. I started to laugh because he obviously thought that it was great fun to be on that side of the bed!

I want to feed myself!

Aiden has decided that he would rather feed himself. He's not sure how to hold the spoon exactly right yet. It doesn't stop him from trying. I've been giving him fruit cocktail or cut up mandarin oranges for him to feed himself. The other day he was happily putting lots of oranges in his mouth and figured that he would see what the bowl looked like upside-down. Needless to say, we now have a big cloth to put under him when he eats! Of course, Jake (the dog) loves to help clean up all the dropped goodies. Today, Aiden wanted to participate in his dinner in a new way. I had a pot of pasta and a pot of ground beef going on the stove. I turned around to work on putting some cookies on a sheet. When I turned back, Aiden had turned all the burners on the stove off. He thought the knobs were loads of fun to play with. After several "no"s and moving him to another room, I gave up and put him in his crib for the rest of the preparations. He wasn't happy about that, but at least he didn't get hurt from anything overflowing on the stove.
P.S. Dinner was pretty good, by the way!

No More Biggio?

A week or so ago, Craig Biggio announced that he will be retiring at the end of this season. For those of you not into baseball, Biggio is the second base player for the Houston Astros. I don't even really remember the Astros without him. I started watching the Astros in the summer of '84. There was a girl at church who was a few years older than me that I thought was the epitome of cool. She mentioned in passing that she had a crush on an Astro player. I started watching the games in the hopes of catching a glimpse of this guy. I figured that he had to be pretty special if she had a crush on him. I watched game after game. I ended up liking the players myself. What I didn't find out 'til the end of the season was there was something called the d.l. For those not in the know, that means the disabled list. Her player was out for the season and never played another game. He would however stay involved with the Astros. He's now one of the radio announcers, Allen Ashby. And you know, he's still kinda cute. Now, Biggio came on the scene in '87. I'd only been following the team for a few years at that point. I remember Jose Cruz and Phil Garner as players; now, they're coaches. I've been a fan for 24 years. And Biggio has been a part of that for over two decades. I have a son of my own. He'll be raised knowing all the Astros players. It's a shame that he won't ever get the opportunity to see one of the best players that the Astros have ever had in action. But like most history, it'll be passed on.

Weightlifter

My son has become a weight lifter. I was working out the other day to an exercise video. Aiden watched me as I used some 2 lb. weights. I put them down next to him to continue the workout. He reached over and picked up the weight. He proceeded to lift it high to examine it. I think he was trying to contemplate how to put it in his mouth!

Proud of Myself

I did something last week that I'm proud of. I fixed a huge meal from scratch including a recipe that I made up. I'm usually too tired to fix anything to fancy for dinner after dealing with a baby all day. Last week though, I made an entire meal. I made some homemade bread in the bread maker. I made some chocolate cake with homemade frosting. I made pecan-crusted chicken. This was the recipe that I was trying to make up. I have had this at a restaurant in San Marcos and loved it. Mine didn't turn out the same, but it was pretty good. I'll have to experiment with the recipe to get it exact. I grilled some squash. I also made some sugar-grilled asparagus that was really good. I cooked up pasta (from a package). I also brewed some herbal tea. I was exhausted by the time I sat down to eat though. Needless to say, the next night I just threw some burgers on the grill and some beans on the stove. I'm trying to figure out something to fix tonight. However, it won't have that much going on. I can tell you that much!
